My Origin Story

Every quiz has a beginning, and so does mine.

Long before the bright jackets, kazoo solos and packed quiz nights, I was the kid who insisted on writing the family Christmas quiz every year. What started as a bit of festive fun soon became a tradition, although my family might say it felt more like an annual endurance test as the questions became increasingly challenging!

Years later, I was given the chance to host pre-written quizzes in local pubs. I quickly realised that standing behind a microphone, entertaining a room full of people and creating memorable nights was something I genuinely loved. In 2018, I landed my first quiz residency in Bracknell, followed by venues across Berkshire and Surrey.

Then came Covid.

Like many in the entertainment industry, everything stopped overnight. Rather than put the quiz sheets away, I took the quizzes online, hosting live events through Zoom and YouTube to keep teams connected during lockdown.

When pubs reopened, I took a leap of faith and launched my own brand.

Dangerous Dave Quiz Master was born.

Since then, I’ve hosted hundreds of quiz nights, created themed events ranging from Harry Potter and Disney specials to Halloween spectaculars, entertained celebrities including Jimmy Bullard, and travelled across the country sharing my unique style of quiz entertainment.

Today, my quizzes are about much more than answering questions. They’re packed with music, puzzles, drawing challenges, audience interaction, plenty of laughs and, of course, the occasional kazoo.

Whether it’s a pub, wedding, corporate event or private party, my goal is always the same:

To create a night people talk about long after the final answer has been revealed.

Why
Dangerous Dave?

There are 2 questions I get asked more than any others. Which is ironic really, because as a quiz master I’m supposed to be the one asking the questions. Question 1: How tall are you? The answer is 6ft 9in (2.06m), or roughly nine guinea pigs stacked on top of each other. Question 2: Why Dangerous Dave? To answer that, we need to go back to 20th November 2019. I was hosting a quiz at one of my regular venues when a group of adults decided they’d rather disrupt the quiz than take part in it. As the evening went on, they started shouting out answers and spoiling the fun for everyone else. I asked them to stop. They didn’t. I asked them to leave. They refused. Eventually the police were called. Most of the group ran out of the pub, but a couple stayed behind and decided to take a swing at me. They missed. I grabbed them by the collars and escorted them firmly out of the pub before leaving the police to deal with the situation. When I walked back inside, the pub erupted into cheers and chants of: “Dangerous Dave! Dangerous Dave!    Dangerous Dave!” One week later, a regular quizzer who owned a personalisation company arrived with a batch of custom-made pens. Printed across them were the words: Dangerous Dave’s Pub Quiz The name had been chosen by the quizzers themselves, and once it stuck, there was no going back. And so, the legend of Dangerous Dave was born. Today, hundreds of quizzes, thousands of players, countless kazoo tunes and more than a few questionable costumes later, the Dangerous Dave Experience continues to grow.
